Atomium – European Institute for Science, Media and Democracy

Atomium – European Institute for Science, Media and Democracy (EISMD) – Atomium Culture AISBL – is an international non-profit organization bringing together several universities, newspapers and businesses in Europe in the first intersectoral platform to promote knowledge sharing and „out of the box „thinking on issues concerning the development of a European knowledge society. ^[1] [2]

The organization Was Publicly lancé en 2009 at the European Parliament in Brussels ^[3] by the train French President Valery Giscard d’Estaing and Michelangelo Baracchi Bonvicini , now Honorary President and President of respectivement Atomium – European Institute for Science, Media and Democracy. ^[4]

Mission

The mission of Atomium – European Institute for Science, Media and Democracy is to promote the development of a knowledge society in Europe drain from Europe. ^[3]

History

In 2006 Atomium – European Institute for Science, Media and Democracy was formally founded under the Law of Belgium as an International Non-Profit Organization.

From 2006 to 2009 Atomium – European Institute for Science, Media and Democracy and its start-ups, universities, newspapers, and research-oriented businesses in Europe. ^[5] In November 2009 Atomium – European Institute for Science, Media and Democracy was launched publicly, ^[6] to co-ordinate activities with the partners for the dissemination and knowledge transfer of research.

On 9 November 2009 Giscard d’Estaing and Baracchi Bonvicini signed the European Manifesto of Atomium – European Institute for Science, Media and Democracy . ^{[2] [7] [8]}

On May 18, 2010, Giscard d’Estaing and Baracchi Bonvicini presented the Report on European Research and Innovation 2020 together with the President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek ^[9] and the European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science Máire Geoghegan-Quinn .

REIsearch

REIsearch is a non-profit European initiative co-funded by the European Commission to demonstrate how to use a tool, a network of leading media, research institutions, researchers, civil society organizations, and citizens use of current scientific research.

REIsearch launched on February 15, 2016. ^[10] [11] This online platform is designed to connect citizens, researchers and policy makers on the subject of scientific research and societal challenges. ^[12]

At launch, REIsearch is running a campaign with chronic disease, ^{[13] [14] [15]} which runs for five weeks. The results of this campaign will be presented to the European Parliament and European Commission at the end of April 2016.

Structure

The Advisory Board ^[16] is composed of representatives from each sector engaged in the permanent platform.

The Scientific Committee ^[17] is composed of professors from the world in the platform.

The Editorial Committee ^[18] is composed of Chief Science Editors

The Executive Board ^[19] is the main decision making body, setting the goals and making the necessary decisions, taking into account the advice of the Advisory Board.

The Management Team ^[20] is responsible for the management of the daily activities, of maintaining relations with the members of the standing committee and coordinating the joint activities.

The Editing Office ^[21] is responsible for facilitating the communication of the innovative research selected.

The Presidency ^[22] ensures the moral and ethical continuity of the project. It addresses its advice to the Executive Board. The Presidency is composed of Honorary President Valéry Giscard d’Estaing and President Michelangelo Baracchi Bonvicini.
